Here at EMECT we make sure our students thrive and have an enjoyable experience at the same time.

United Arab Emirates / Angola

My name is Valter, I’m half U.A.E. (Emirati) and Angolan (Angola).
Moving to South Africa, Cape Town was the best choice I’ve ever made, as we all know, Cape Town is a wonderful and beautiful city. On the other hand, I had the opportunity to study in a school surrounded by students from all over the world.

Moreover, I stayed at Rezhomestay whose family environment was very welcoming, but there were rules to comply, in the beginning it was difficult for me as a teenager you want to free, but these same rules that I had to follow made me realize how important it is to live in a community where you have to respect others. Later on, my adaption process was good as I realize its importance, and started getting along with the lovely host family, they made me feel secure, comfortable, part of the family and could count on the them no matter the circumstance.

Furthermore, the school environment was amazing, people from different parts of the world, each one of us exploring and learning about each other’s culture, if I may call it a “rainbow international school” due to its diversification in terms of people. Plus, I had many professional and enthusiastic teachers in which I did not only learnt but also had fun while learning.

I have had an amazing experience for being able to fit in and learn to live in a community. I have grown so much: personally and academically. All praises to Mrs. Glynnis Overmeyer for the amazing opportunity for hosting me and be there to support me.

Before 2018 I knew very little about Cape Town and even less about Abbotts College and Rezhomestay. On top of that  I had the language barrier and a new environmnet to get used to.I was eventually nervous. Nevertheless, the warm welcoming and the inclusive enviroment of Abbotts, based on its diversity, made those uncertainties fade away. One year after I joined Abbotts, I had the opportunity to stay at Homestay whose family environment  give me the chance to focus more on my studies and to be more responsible in terms of school and home life. Also diversity oriented, I had the privelege to share the same house with different nationalities and personalities. At the end of two years of experience, I can surely maintain that I have grown in many ways while I staying there

A message from Jessica to teacher Glynnis. "Hello momma, just received my diploma yesterday. And from the people I must thank for supporting me during this journey, you are definitly one of them! Thank you for receiving me at your house, so young and naive, and teaching me very important lessons for life. As well as for being such a caring and sweet person 💓 From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU MOMMA BEAR 🐻"

Democratic Republic of Congo

When I arrived here in cape town in 2017 i already knew what the challenge would be which was the language barrier. I met a lot of people who taught me a lot about the South African way of living and that helped me a lot in my life being a student at Abbotts. Now I'm in my final destination. I thank everyone especially mrs Glynnis that took care of us at the Rezhomestay and finally I thank God for everything!

South Africa

My name is Luxolo Mbuma and I was a student at Rezhomestay for the year 2020. I went to school at Abbotts College in Claremont. I have to say my stay at Rezhomestay was really nice. This year being my first year away from home they really made me feel welcome in their home. The environment here study wise is really good with that being the main goal of the rez. As a football player I loved that they gave me the freedom to go play whenever I want. I’m not really a person who opens up very easily about issues but here I learnt the importance of talking and learning from people around you. Also that independence comes with a great responsibility and also how being well organized helps you.

I came from Brazil with the intention of learning English right from the beginning. As I could only have classes in the evenings I chose private tuition. Glynnis was an excellent choice, she is always patient, very dedicated and insistent on the correct spelling and pronunciation. After 5 months of having classes, I can write, read and talk, turning my stay in Cape Town much easier.

I am Vicky, I'm from China.
When I first cameto  South Africa, I felt very strange, because I couldn’t speak English, it was so bad, could talk to no one.
Afterwards I came to Abbotts school, I also felt uncomfortable to talk.
However, I joined Mrs Glynnis English lessons. Now , I can speak more fluently and feel better than before. Glynnis has taught me a lot of English, she can make simple sentences, and that is very easy for me to understand. She is not like a teacher, just like a sister or friend, she is very friendly.
Thus far, I think my English has been good, but is not enough!
but that is ok, I will persevere anyway! (^_^)

Reunion Islands

I had a very interesting experience for my knowledge of English. I stayed in a comfortable house, where I was welcomed and learned English with Glynnis, excellent teacher and I have much progress for 1 month. In addition to the quality of the course there was a great family atmosphere and I had good moments. I recommend EMECT and the warm welcome of the house too.

Al Baraa

Saudi Arabia

My name is Al-Baraa. I came to Cape Town to study English straight to EMECT school. When I arrived I couldn't keep up with conversations or read and write very well. However, I fought all obstacles to achieve my goal and now after three months with teacher Glynnis and Owen I can speak , read and write fluently. I wish for this school to be in the best position.

South Africa

My name is Desirous Antonio, I'm from eMalahleni. I came to Cape Town to improve my matric results at Abbotts College. I've been here for a short while but I must say I felt really welcomed. The Rezhomestay is a perfect environment for studying as it allows you to just focus on your studies and not worry about anything else.

South Africa

My name is Xiluva Mhinga. I am from Johannesburg. I came to Cape Town this year to improve my matric results at Abbots College. I think this year was perfect for this with everything that was happening with COVID-19. So it was a productive gap year for me.

Staying at The Rezhomestay was such a wonderful experience for me. I was far from home and my family but I did not feel homesick at all because Glynnis was such a wonderful host. She made sure we had everything we needed in order to complete our studies. I have learnt so many life skills from her.

I am grateful for this experience and I will definitely cherish all the memories I created this year forever.

South Africa

I’m Kenyia Abasili from Durban , South Africa. I’m a 19 year old student who is currently upgrading 3 matric subjects.

This year has been very different to all the others , with the Covid-19 Pandemic we had to adapt to new living norms and i must say that Glynis has made me feel comfortable and safe throughout this period.

She has been extremely warm and welcoming towards me and i will always remember her for her kind nature.

The Rezhomestay allows you to give your undivided attention to your studies as well as learn some independence along the way.

I am grateful for such an amazing experience. I guarantee you that by the end of your journey at the rhezhomestay you would have learned many life skills that you can apply throughout your life.

Khaled, Saudia Arabia

I loved the teacher Glynnis and the family . Now I can speak and write much better than before. I liked the home with school but 2 month wasn't enough for me
